Want to take a ride with one of our teachers in Jakarta?

As we encourage others to teach for us internationally our main emphasis is on the joy of teaching these great world changers!  But there is also an opportunity to experience their culture.

This video will give you a taste of Indonesia.

Why is theological education so important?

Certainly we don't want to underestimate the importance of evangelism and church planting, but we must also be careful not to underestimate the importance of theological training for the leaders of churches.  In Matthew 28 Jesus left us the command to "make disciples."  I know you have heard the statment before but it bears repeating: He didn't say make converts; He said make disciples.

We are not to choose between these, but understand that all of them are important.  At Advance International we have heard stories of what happens to church plants where the leader is not discipled or theologically trained.  Without biblical training the leaders are not able to adequately interpret the Bible-and that is dangerous.  These leaders may end up following other church leaders that are not biblical or not even Christian!  Or they may become discouraged and give up because they don't know how to lead a group of believers.  How many church plants don't survive because their leaders drift away from the teachings of the Bible.

That is where Advance International many other organizations come in.  Our goal has always been to provide quality theological training in areas where there is little or none available.  Why?  Because we know the difference it makes.  When the international church leaders are equipped to interpret the Bible and trained on how to be a church leader then they will grow churches that continue in the faith.  They don't need us to do this for them, they just need help in doing what the Lord has called them to do.  And they are the ones who have the best chance to bring their own people to Jesus Christ.

So keep supporting organizations whose main purpose is evangelism or church plants.  ABSOLUTELY!  But also be sure to support organizations that disciple and teach the indigenous leaders how to interpret the Bible and how to lead the church.  It is not one over the other.  It is BOTH!

God bless,

Phil Walker

Exciting change for 2019

I am excited about a major change for Advance International for 2019.  Starting in February I, Phil Walker, will be retiring from my church and be able to devote more time to this great ministry.  I will be available to preach at any of your missions meetings, or to meet with you or your missions committees or your pastor to explain what we do.  You can contact me at pwalker@2advance.org to set up a time.

Please be in prayer as we look to expand our footprint further into the world for the sake of the Kingdom.
