Quick Facts for You

How are locations determined?
ADVANCE responds to invitations to provide theological education from national leaders, the IMB, other international mission organizations, or US pastors or leaders who desire to start an international school.  Our main desire at ADVANCE is to partner where little to no opportunity exists for theological education.

What is the amount of time needed to prepare for a teaching assignment?
Usually it takes about 6 months to finish the prepartion needed (airline reservations, approval by NOTBS to teach, visas, etc.)  If you are able to go with short notice, please let us know.  We are always in need of replacements.

What is the cost of the trip?
The trips average $2,500-3,000.  This includes airfare, other transportation, translators, food, etc.  We usually secure your hotel and transportation in country for the teaching assignments and in some locations we also make your international airline reservations.

How long will the entire trip take?
A typical trip is 10 to 13 days .  We plan most trips so a pastor would only have to be gone one Sunday from his pulpit. The teaching schedules are different at each location and we can tell you when you contact us the exact schedule for the location where you want to teach.  We do our best to have you away from home for only one Sunday.

How many hours of teaching do I need to plan?
Classes are 20 hours of lecture teaching through a translator.

How do I qualify as an Adjunct Professor of New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary?
You do not have to be an alumnus of NOBTS to serve in this program.  You do have to be a member of a Southern Baptist Church.  Usually a doctorate degree or 15 hours of master level courses in the subject being taught is required.
ADVANCE will work with you to complete this process.  After approval from NOBTS, Advance and the teacher work together to provide a syllabus, outlines, class notes and exams.

Will a translator be provided?

Yes.  Don’t be concerned if you have not taught through a translator before.  We have excellent translators and by the end of the first day, you will be comfortable with the process.

If I want to use PowerPoint in my teaching lessons, will I need to bring my own computer?
We have a computer, projector and  screen available at most locations.  We will be able to let you know for sure when your teaching location is determined.

How are future locations determined?
At the present time ADVANCE is limiting our underwriting of new schools to one country in East Asia, which we feel has the greatest need and greatest opportunity.  If you have a country where you feel there is a need for one of our schools, please contact us.  If you are able to underwrite the costs of the new school and also would be willing to do all the administration for the school, we are open to partnering with you to get that school started and also get your teachers approved by New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary so that the students can qualify to receive the Pastoral Ministries Certficate..

How is ADVANCE affiliated with the IMB?
Advance funds the schools and secures the teachers, translators, materials, etc. for the schools.  IMB helps us with the logicstics on the ground, selects the students and also the cities where our training is most needed.

How are the classes funded?
There are two ways that the costs of our international locations  are funded.

1- Advance International Schools

These are schools that Advance International directly funds and administrates.  In light of the overwhelming need for trained church leaders in East Asia we direct our resources only to schools in that country.  When you give to Advance International your donation go towards supporting these schools.

Presently we have 20 Advance International schools in this one country in East Asia with almost 400 students and plan on adding 5 more during the next year.

2- Partner Advance International Schools

Occasionally we have an individual or group who request that we start a school in another country besides China.  Although we are not able to do that, we offer to be their liaison with NOBTS and help them in meeting all the requirements necessary for their students to receive the Pastoral Ministries Certificate. This requires that they provide the funding and administration necessary for these schools .

Presently our partner schools are in Indonesia (1), Peru (1) and Paraguay (1) along with one each opening in Brazil, Honduras and Kenya and two opening in India during the next year.

Am I required to commit my time or my church’s involvement beyond my first teaching assignment?
No.  Everyone involved will evaluate the process.  We want to make sure that the national leaders benefit from your teaching.  Likewise, you must involve yourself in places in the world that match your passion.  We would ask you to prayerfully consider your involvement once you return home.  If God leads you to teach again or expand your/your church’s efforts in the future, we can explore those possibilities.

Are contributions made to ADVANCE tax deductible?
Yes, tax deductible contributions can be made to ADVANCE.  We are a Texas based, registered 501c3 not-for-profit organization.  We will send you a record of your contribution for your records.
